I can hear the groans already
Please bear with me. I've read the numerous threads on tripods and heads, and noted the popularity of the ballhead. However, I shoot mainly landscapes, and find them a PITA. My present Manfrotto head has started to 'creep' now I've got my 1D and its time to get a new one.

I am looking at Manfrotto heads and can't decide between the 141RC, 322, 329 and 410 geared head.

Does anyone have any experience of any of these heads for landscapes that they would be willing to share?

Thanks

Sorry, Trevor, no experience with those heads.
However I'm considering a PITA ball head which, I'm sure, won't creep.

I asked for some info a couple of months back but it was new then and so info was scarce.

It's the Manfrotto/Bogen 468mg Hydrostat range.
Here's a link with the RC2 quick release, although there are others.

Sorry to be a PITA but I do prefer ball heads.

i don't have any experience with those either. I use a manfrotto 3030 pan/tilt head. I like it, it's steady, and works very well for landscapes... plus it has a level, and degree scales in case i need to use them. Also, the center column can be used either vertically or horizontally so that's a plus for other uses.

Thanks for the links Cameron, I like the look of that head and the weight (particularly the weight!) I just wonder if it would wear out. The friction control must surely wear out after a while?

Thanks cmM, I forgot that these heads have different numbers in the rest of the world. Over here, that's the 141

Thanks again guys
