Are you talking about the "posing" style or finished image?
Like this?

If so, then a clean backdrop, good light set-up and definite post processing is the key.
Biggest thing here (tip) is Lucius Art or Topaz adjust ;)

Hiri,
It is not just for indoor use. I wish I could be 1/10th as good as Robert Alvarado but here is one of his pictures.

Take a look at mine. I can detail exactly what went into this shot if this is the style you mean.

1. You need a great model that has studied and can pull off classic pin up poses.
2. You need a pin up outfit and props.
3. You need decent lighting.
4. You need post processing skills that can make the image look somewhat vintage.

Lovely gallery, it's difficult to get right. I'm studying it myself right now.
Props props and more props, but, not too many lol.
I never liked the ones that are so over processed and I know Elvgren is highly popular and he took a photo of the girl in a pose then painted the resulting picture.
Many appear to try and emulate this but it ruins the image imo.

Pinup is all about the hair/clothing style of the model traditionally shot on a high-key background. Evenly lit, and lot's of post-processing. I really like this style.

I like Iman Woods' style. She's a very nice lady and has a softer, more feminine style--yet firmly in the "pin-up" mode.

ya gotta pick a pinup theme you like, get all the props, find the proper eye candy model who will work for the money you can spend, then pay a make up artist to do the models hair and put the right stuff on her face... then find the right background either indoors or outdoors...
the rest is all ones photogrpahy style...

that's a lovely shot and really well done. How much is done in post-processing and how much lighting?

I also agree that it's model, model, model, and styling, styling, and styling. ;)
If you get the right model that fits the part, and the right stylist and props, you're all set if you can do a halfway decent job with the technical skills. The lighting is trivial, and best if shot fairly flat and enhanced in post.
The theme, concept, and styling are far more important than the technical photography skills. Make sure you put your efforts there, and the results will be much better.
The lighting in these were flat, nothing interesting, but the model and styling carried the image IMO.

Also you are going to have to learn quite a bit of Photoshop to get the "Pin-up Look" most times the better Pinup images have been hand worked and not just hammered through a general workflow. Alvarado's stuff is a great example of this. Also look up Mike Long and his Pindora's Box actions.

I'm at the studio so I don't have the actual photo here but I have a link to one I just shot yesterday:

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it but it's something she wanted to try so who am I do deny a client? lol.
To do true Vargas, I think you have to make the photo look almost like an illustration, vs a photo.

2. You need a pin up outfit and props.
3. You need decent lighting.
4. You need post processing skills that can make the image look somewhat vintage.
5. You can also try this.
Assuming that you are using tungsten lights, dial up your white balance to the "fluorescent" setting. Don't use flash or strobes-leave it to the lighting.
What will happen is a very nice vibrant, semi-kitschy, 30's to 5O's type of look which is very suitable for most pin-up attempts. Think Marilyn Monroe, if you need an example, of just many.
Don't ask me to explain WHY this happens, someone else who is smarter than I will come along and do just that, I'm sure! :)

Props and wardrobe are important but so is the proper make up on the model as opposed to doing it in PS.
