How many of you use a monopod and what are your thoughts on them.
This has probably been asked before but since I'm new here I ask it again.;)
I use my tripod quite a bit and have been thinking about a monopod. A question I would have is since most don't have any type of tilt head is it a pain in the a** to aim up or down on an angle from eye level?
What would be a good brand to use with my 200-400 that won't break the bank?

You can add this onto the monopod:

And you'll be able to point it up/down.

I'm about to receive this in the mail any day now.

I plan to use it in Europe where I have to travel light and can't afford the space of a tripod. It will hold my 20d with a 300mm zoom and a 550ex flash based on manufacturers weights. it's also only about 2lbs and comes with a head and the standard bogen detachable plate which matches my tripod. i can't tell you if i like it yet. if you're happy with your tripod, see if you can get a mono that will work with your same head or at least the quick release plates. i'm not using my pistol grip ballhead in europe for the same reason, too big and heavy.

good luck!

I have had a similar setup except with the 3232 head (no quick release) for about 3 years. I don't find that I need any other head since the monopod itself is flexible. I adjust the mount to give me the ability to either tilt the camera back and forth or side to side.

I originally got the monopod for my video camera but find I use it a great deal with both film and digital cameras. For me, I find I take the monopod more often than I would have carried a tripod. It can be terribly useful in those situations where there is no place to lean or it gives me another bit of stability when I do have a place to lean. I usually chose to take it places with a long lens versus my very light tripod. Like so many things, I did have to work out technique to get the most out of it but I love mine. One of the basic tricks with a monopod is to use your two legs to create a "tripod".

As a bonus, I use it as a walking stick when not using it to take pictures. :)

This looks like it might just be what I'm looking for. Let me know how you like it when you get it.
Going camping in the morning and wish I had one to take with me.

I've a Bogen Monopod and it didn't come with a Head. You can pick any head you want that satisfy your needs. Or use it with one.
