I've always wondered, why do they wear those funny hats? is it cultural? or does it serve a purpose?

if they are outside most of the day, then probably to keep the sun out. but that's just a guess

I was once told it was to stop the bugs falling into thier hair from the forest and for rain - not sure if this is true :confused:

Asian people are very sun aware - my guess is because of the sun. Vietnamese people (as along with most of Asia) are very traditional people.

They also think some of the clothes we (Westerners) wear are funny,, and totally inappropriate for that climate and culture..

These hats keep the sun off their heads and are easily made..

These photos have a lot of culture in them. Thank you for sharing.
A lot of my relative would not go out of the house without that hat or a hat. We like to be protect our skin :-)
