Hi everyone I now have a rebel 450D (xsi), and just found out I would be able to get another camera. I am so excited and I had my heart set on the 5D mark 2 but am kind of turned off my the low fps rate. Is there something a little faster that I could look into? I mostly shoot pets, kids, and some portaits (couples, etc), and want to eventually shoot weddings with this camera. So need to know what to look for. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you want a full frame camera that is faster than the 5D II, the 1Ds III is the only one that comes to mind. If you don't need a full frame sensor then take a look at the 7D, it has dual image processors like the 1D series.
One of the reasons why the 5D II has a low frame rate is because it take longer to process 21 megapixel images, and like all cameras it's even slower when shooting RAW. If you want a fast camera take a look at the 1D III, for the time being, it's the fastest Canon body there is at 10 fps (jpeg).
All that being said, the 5D and 5D II are very well suited for weddings and portraits in spite of their slow frame rate. They both handle noise well, which is important for wedding photography. If you don't mind an older model body, you might want to consider a 1 D II, 1D IIN, or 1Ds II.
You also might want think about investing your money in lenses or lighting gear instead. Bodies depreciate fast so many people who are just starting out would be better off investing in other items they need before upgrading to the latest and greatest camera body.

In addition to everything that's been mentioned, I just wanted to point out that the 40D and 50D, while in a lower class than the xD lines, do have a faster fps rate than your current camera.

This is very true. I think that the conventional wisdom would be to go for one of these two or maybe a 5D classic if you are dead set on going full frame, but the original 5d is pretty slow in jpeg and very slow for RAW. The 50D is fast, it has some sizable upgrades from the 40D, such as the the lens micro-adjust feature and significantly higher resolution. It has also had about a year to depreciate.

Do you really need the high FPS rate? That would be the main question. I know if I didn't do motorsports stuff I would not care about having more the 3fps.
