I am in a process to upgrade my collection of lens. I always purchase new lens online and have not worked with local camera stores. Wondering what is the best ways (easilest, getting most $$) to sell used lens.

Thank you in advance!!

A good option is to post them for sale here at PTON in the marketplace section.

Yup! Sell em right here on the forum! :-) Otherwise, ebay. Ebay's a pain though. And Paypal's it's evil twin.... so, start here. :-)

what i'd do is post them on this and other forums at the price you would like to get. if you don't get the offers you want then i'd put them on ebay where they will get wider exposure ... and you may get more $ than you think.

ebay isn't that difficult and besides selling your lenses you'll know what to do the next time :).

if you live in or near a major us metro area, also try craigslist.com. -alex

Hello, Two months ago I purchased two new Canon 17-40L and 70-200L lenses and sold my Canon 28-135 IS and 75-300 lenses on ebay.
I sold each of them for a very good price(still had warranty) and the buyers were both very happy. My wife was also pleased that I converted some existing stock into cash. I have had very good results on ebay and paypal and highly recommend them. It is quick and I received my money very quickly.
Good Luck.

The quickest way is to sell them to me for the square root of zero.

I know that this is a Canon thread but I have a lens that was given to me by my sister and don't know much about it. I was wondering if there is anybody who could help me identify it (as I have not been able to find it online) and possibly help me find a good way to sell it.

POTN and Fred Miranda buy/sell boards are very good. Ebay and Craigslist can be good, but are more of a crap shoot. I've had some success selling on Amazon recently, but you deal with some of the same issues as with ebay (i.e. commissions eating your proceeds) but not quite as bad.

To find the used price on a particular lens, best way is to search eBay's completed listings of the same lens. It gives you the highest, lowest, median price, etc.

probably better off starting a new thread asking for help identifying the lens...then post as much info as possible...every wording/numbers on the lens...and then best case scenario is always posting a picture of it...

figure out what you have first, and then for selling, either ebay, craigslist, or here are good options, depending on what you've got

fredmiranda.com forum will get you a quick sale at a fair price, although there is a small fee associated with it, but its not as bad as the ebay crooks.

try here first, if that fails go to http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/board/10

I like to buy lenses try them out for a yr or two and then get new lenses to spice up my collection.. of course when i buy new lenses, i sell my old ones..

my order is..

1. sell here first.. there are always people looking for something~ here you can also have good communication with your "customers" and come to a fair price, if not then there is always someone eventually.. most sales are done thru paypal~ however u can do regular check out, where paypal takes out about 3% of the transaction, OR, you can ask the buyer to send the money as a gift payment, which there is no transaction fee.. however there is also no receipt for the buyer... i have done 3 gifts transaction and 1 transaction fee so far here.. mostly everyone here is friendly and trustworthy so gifts are fine, (If i receive a gift payment, I usually bring down the price 5-10 bucks depending on how much the final price is)

2. IFFFFFF i cant sell here, (which i hadn't had that problem) i'd sell on ebay.. the only reason why i dont like that is because ebay takes about 9-10% out of your final sale so that is annoying.. then u also include the paypal %

3. try the other site that others have listed like Fred Miranda.. i never tried that, but it sounds promising.

I put my 7D, 5D2, 100-400 L and a camera bag up for sale on a UK based forum on a saturday morning and had sold the lot, for over £400 more than offered by a dealer, by the sunday morning. 2 people had collected the items and bought cash and I got a bank transfer for the other 2, one on saturday and one on sunday. I then ordered a new 5D3 on the monday.

There was no other fees involved, but for ebay and paypal it would of cost around £140 (if I've worked it out correctly), and I got to meet 2 very nice guys into the bargain.
