I need to be able to get to a 1.0 focal length multiplier. Any speculation from anyone about whether the D90 is going to be a 1.0x camera?

There's loads of speculation from loads of people - but that's all you're going to get until Canon decide to tell the world what they are intending to make.

You'll just have to be patient.

there won't be any D90.
The next generation will be split. D80 (based on EOS 3)and D40.
D40 will be a cheaper SLR (+-1500us$)
And regarding specs for the moment this is only speculations.

If you want the facts then you will have to wait for the PMA convention in Las Vegas which starts on March 3rd.

Theres going to be a D90? Hmm we'll have to wait and see. The D60 is all ready based on the 3. The 1D is on the EOS 1 and the D30 was based on the A2.

Hmm.. Accually. I think both the D30 and D60 where built on EOS 300/30 (Rebel 2000/Elan 7), and the 1D is built in 1V.

So the next DSLR from Canon will probably be built on EOS 3, with its AF-speed and maybe its looks. (Since D30/D60 has the looks of Rebel2000/Elan 7)

D60/30 dont have the AF-speed in EOS 3 (not the speed in Elan 7 either, but the chassi).

Yes my mistake about the D30. The Elan is the replacement for the A2, unfortunatly a cheaper 1.
