can you do some form of raid with 2 different sized hard drives?
can i only raid my my pic folder?

depending upon the solution you use:
1.) you can use different size hardware... if you have two raw drives, you can put them in a mirror set, the array will be limited to the size of the smallest drive.
2.) Software raid solutions: will let you mirror a volume or partion
you can't just 'raid' a folder, however you can move just that folder to an array or volume protected by raid, either software or hardware based..

Its got to be noted though, for best performance, use drives of the same size and speed.
