Hello all,

After years of working, saving and researching I have finally upgraded my kit and have spent many thousands on new Canon gear and am very happy with it. The only thing is I am now terrified and very pedantic about keeping it safe and properly stored when not in use. After a recent landscape shoot in cold conditions, I grabbed my gear from the car (transported in a tamrac expedition 7) and bought it into the heated hotel room I was staying in, had a nice hot shower to warm up and then proceeded to clean my filters and lenses as they had been subjected to a fair amount of wind and seaspray. I was mortified to see the amount of moisture that had built up not only on my precious new lenses but also on the inside of the plastic compartments in the "lid" of my tamrac bag. I have since put the little silica sachets you find when you buy vitamins etc inside each of these pockets but I was wondering what everyone else out there does to combat this problem. Preventative measures as well as solutions? Your advice will be greatly appreciated :)

Its ruined! I buy all you got for $50.

Actually a couple of times may not hurt but you really need to place everything into a plastic bag whiled you are still outside, close it up, then bring in all in. Keep everything in the bag until you feel it has sufficiently warmed up.

The little silica packs in the camera bag are next to worthless. These only work in a closed container otherwise there is just too much moisture in the circulating air for them to be effective at all.

HaHa! thanks for that. Luckily the gear is all working 100% which is a huge relief. When you say a plastic bag is a shopping bag sufficient or something more like a zip lock type bag that's airtight?
