Is it worth it?
The Canon one that is. I don't wear glasses, but would like to avoid pressing my face up against the body. I heard it was good for wide lenses.

i hear people take the glass out of it, otherwise it actually shrinks the image. btw, the new 7d uses a different viewfinder piece that i don't think is compatible. when i picked it up at the store, i was wondering if it was extended or not, as i found my nose not touching the lcd as much, took off the 7d eyepiece and it looked different than the 50d, so not sure if the eyepiece would work on that camera.

I got one for my 5D. I used it for a while but then got tired of the smaller image which among other things, makes manual focusing that much harder. So I took the lens out and used it for a while. that was better, but I still found myself having to move my head around a little to view the entire image. So now I'm not using the extender at all. At least it was cheap.

It's useful. The extender + Asian flat nose = less smudge on LCD. :)
One negative thing about it is that you can easily lose it. I already lost one.

They can help. I used one for a while, both with and without the glass in it. I prefer the glass out as it makes the viewfinder too small, but its a personal preference kinda thing.

I have a big honker. I got one on a used 30d, moved it to the 40d and have been using it since. Dont know that I would pay for it, but I have to clean my lcd screen a lot less.

I wear glasses and use one on my 30D, I did not take the glass part out and I have never really had an issue. I have lost the eyecup piece more times than I care to remember, but now I am very careful with it and it hasn't happened in a while. I now have the 7D and I don't seem to have as much of an issue with it either so I don't think I will be adding it to that camera.

i really don't think it's compatible with the 7D from the looks of it. someone confirm or deny this. will they make one for the 7D? who knows.

I got an eyepiece for my 5D2, and removed the plastic lenses in it. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=563309&highlight=EP-EX15+Eyepeice+extender+mod+tutorial+including) That way, my nose is farther from the back of the body, but the view is unimpeded and complete to all four corners.

Do they happen to make a rubber piece that sticks out further. Not the entire extender, but just the rubber piece?

It doesn't look like it would fit the 7D

This (http://www.hoodmanusa.com/prodinfo.asp?number=H%2DEYEC22) will fit the 7D, from Hoodman. Be aware that it blocks the top of the LCD.

Bought the extender for my 20D, removed the lens and liked it even better, then transfered it to my 5dmkII. I feel wierd shooting without it now.

this doesn't look like it extends it, watch the video. just adds a hood for whatever reason.

If you use it on FF body, it will not only make view finder smaller, it also introduce (noticeable) barrel distoriton in view finder. On crop body, the distortion is less noticeable.

Damn, damn and thrice damn. The EP-EX15 doesn't fit on the 7D. Damn! I've been using one of these since my 20D - first with the lenses in, then with them removed. I've got used to having that extra distance and I'm missing it.

interesting, i see that they reshaped the inside of the 7D eyepiece, but i don't see for what purpose.

I dont think the viewfinder was something that Canon needed to update on the 7D. They probably have a list of parts pending for the 7D including an extender.
