Can I use two different powered strobes such as the AB800 and AB400 and get them to match output at some level. In other words, are two AB800's gauranteed to be very close at the same power setting?

Additional ?: IF I move to a two stobe wedding formal setup. How much do you reccomend the set difference be between the two strobes for pleasant lighting?

As long as you limit the power output to within the range of both strobes, I don't see why you can't get them both to output the same amount of light. A light meter would make that task a lot easier, too.

In theory the 800 at half power puts out the same as the 400 at full power. You would need to meter to confirm this, and of course thats given the same distance to subject etc.

With a strobe with an old-fashioned slider to adjust output such as the Alienbees, you would need a meter to assure matching output at any level other than full power.

With a strobe with digital power adjustment such as the Elinchrom D-Lites, you should be able to get identical output from identical strobes at any level without the need to meter them individually.

yeah, meter to be sure.

Even if you could set the output to be the same, distance to subject, modifier, etc will further modify power output.
