View Full Version : Diverse style or single style?

I'm strictly referring to processing. We all have access to a huge selection of tones, colour casts and styles that allow us to deliver a fantastically broad range of images to our customers, even if we begin with a small pool of photos.

So here is my question. With an initial customer, do I stick to a specific style when presenting their photos (I shoot outdoors an in varied settings so I have a diverse base), or should I pick something conventional and safe?

I think you should do whatever YOUR style is. If you like to process your photos in different ways.. then do that! If they want to hire you then they are hiring you for your creativity. I see no reason to be conventional... unless that is your style.

Here are 12 images from the shoot in question that had me asking questions:

Chrissy, her sister-in-law, and their four combined children joined (New) World Photography at the amazingly beautiful (the hike is murder, but the view is worth it!) Explorers Peak Park at Mountain's Edge in southwestern Las Vegas, just off Blue Diamond Road, for an early morning photoshoot.

My own preferred style is bright and faded, uncontrasted with vibrant colours. Gimmick or no?

I think they look pretty good.. gimmick no. I think you may want to up the contrast just a bit(not much). I think the first 2 are not up to par(color wise) with the others. Just remember you want them to look professional no matter how you process them.

Gimmicky? Hmm, maybe. Depends on how you define "gimmick." I always try and stick to a consistent "look," so clients coming to me have a general idea of what they can expect, but certain photos look great processed in different ways.
