I have been doing video filming in PAL but notice I can only get 25fps HD but if I switch over to NTSC I can get 30fps HD. Question, is PAL or NTSC, which is better and what problems does NTSC have over PAL, and Visa versa . If I only use the videos on my computer and youtube and not on a TV will I be OK.

Yeah computer use only. If you want to use it on the TV you have to use your country's video standard.

Is NTSC 30 fps better than PAL 25 fps ?

I can't tell the difference bt 24fps vs. 30fps. average viewer wouldn't either. I can't imagine 25fps be any different.

if your final delivery is computer or internet, shoot 24, 25, or 30 will be fine. they all recognize.

29,97 fps is more "videoish", but as said, an average viewer won't notice it. The fps is format specced.

If you looked at this mathematically 30fps would be 16%+ less jerky than 25fps or am I getting this all wrong ?

Then there's the image size. I understand NTSC is 640 x 480 pixels, while PAL is 768 x ??520. But what do you need it for, is the key. Anyway, both are pretty established standards. Am...

mathematically thats correct but your eyes can't tell. however if you slow down the 30fps vs. 25fps, 30fps will be less [beef] "jerkier."

if you are in america only mess w/ 30fps, plain and simple!!!

Just my opinion, and I am not a video expert, but I can tell a huge difference between 24p and 30p.

24p = Professional video, Every Hollywood movie you've seen

30p = amateur video, your kids birthday party video, sports(60p)

*Our brains have grown accustomed to associate 24p with quality and 30p with homemade videos. Even though you think you don't notice the difference.. You do!

It's a bit closer if you've been watching PAL footage all your life (Go Europe!) because there's not that big of a jump between 24 and 25 fps. But yes, 30 fps looks smoother thus more video like. It all depends on what kind of a project you are shooting.

I shot this in PAL I assume 25fps, a few days ago I deleted the raw movie file just after putting up on youtube, In future what could I do to improve this type of movie, I have done no editing or processing other than put it on youtube.

Hi Canon Man 50d. Your name itself makes me envious, but I thought the 50D did not do video(??!!??). All I can say is shoot in the best movie mode available. But for posting on the Net you usually have to sacrifice file size and thus image quality. I don't know how you can get out of that one, but just save your original clips next time. (OK, what are you using for your clips?) Am...
PS. Our TV system is PAL, though on the computer it doesn't matter.
