Anyone have any guesses as to what next year's Rebel will be like? More features than the T1i?

They will probably come out with a 60D before another rebel.

Agreed. They are more focused on what the amatuer/semi-pro bodies than the Rebel's beginner body. It is just business. The majority or people who buy the XXD or XD bodies are far more concerned about little performance upgrades than the person who may buy the Rebel. The Rebel is a fantastic body, dont get me wrong, but the average buyer of it is not too concerened bout every specific with the camera. Im sure Canon will figure out the 60D first, and then let that technology trickle down to the Rebel line.

Perhaps there won't be a new Rebel next year? I can't decide whether or not to buy the T1i or wait. Why must they torture us? :)

I think if you truly want / need the camera....buy it now. Otherwise you will be waiting forever if you keep waiting for the new thing to come out. Enjoy the experience now

With the T1i being the newest rebel the features probably won't be that much of an upgrade on the next rebel. I say if you are interested in the T1i go ahead and get it.

I lost interest in Rebels when canon decided to not put AF microadjust into them

It's a shame, I like the 4 way selector system way better than the stupid rear control dial on my 5D2's

If they can increase the megapixels, there will be a new Rebel. Otherwise, the T1i will be around for while (this coming from a happy XSi owner).

Keep hoping for a better focusing system..... Don't care about megapixels.

Agreed, I don't think there is going to be another Rebel for awhile. Canon has introduced alot of new cameras in the past year and a half and I'm not sure there is room for a Rebel right now.

get the T1i, even if there is another camera, the features won't be that much better i can guarantee that. plus it is the person not the camera. and you will wait forever. just do it. it's a great camera.

The 1000D/XS was launched more than a year ago. It will definitely be upgraded soon. Rumours about the 2000D/Ti being announced before Christmas are doing the rounds. It'll probably have 720p HD video recording and a slight MP boost.

@ iAMB

I don't completely agree. Actually, first time DSLR buyers do get fooled by certain aspects like Higher MP, no. of AF points, LiveView, etc. I know a person who bought a Olympus E-420 over a 1000D/D60 only because it was smaller and lighter. Nothing else mattered to him.

That's why I'm probably going to buy a 7D mk XIV next, every time I think about getting a new body I rationalize it and come to a conclusion that an XSi/a 450D is plenty of camera for me... I could use a better ISO performance and a possibility of micro adjustment would be cool, but that's about it.

I 100% disagree with the above comment. :) The rebel lineup gets tons of attention. Why? Because it is the volume seller. I would bet that 100 rebels sell for every 1d. Still, you could be right, but I just want to state why I disagree and think that the Rebel lineup will get more updates than the other models. I wouldn't expect a new top-end rebel till approx June of '10 though. The low end might get replaced before then, I don't know

The next rebel:
1. Having the 18mp sensor from the 7d. Bet on it. This much is almost certain. The top end rebel will have the highest megapixel 1.6 crop sensor canon makes at the time, period--even if the 60d or w/e doesn't.
2. Will be between 3 and 4 fps just like it's been on all of the rebels recently.
3. Will NOT have full manual video control.
4. Very well might have some of the 7d viewfinder features (built in level, etc). Highly likely imho. If not in the viewfinder I would really expect a live view digital level.
5. I'd say micro-adjust is a toss up, but I'd bet no :(.
6. I bet the auto focus will be a new unit but will still be quite basic. Expect contrast AF to be a bit faster in the '10 rebel.
7. Don't expect the wireless flash control from the 7d and don't expect weather sealing.

So expect the next Rebel to continue to have competitive features for the segment, beating many but not going crazy like Olympus does with features. Don't expect huge improvements in FPS or auto focus imho.

However, expect image quality to absolutely be top notch, among the best aps-c cameras available for purchase at any price, just like it's always been (at least since the xti/xsi).

I'm predicting the 40D AF (or a close semblance) finally trickles down since the new 7D AF is in town. Just like the XTI got the 30D AF.
I agree on the 18MP, although if the high ISO looks as good as the 7D, who cares?
I think we might see a D5000/90 challenging 4-4.5fps
I agree no extra frills like manual video, flash control, etc.
Grip will still suck

If we can get 40D AF in a rebel sized body I will be overjoyed. I just don't want the bigger camera body even if I do hate the rebel grip.

You might be right on the 40D's AF trickling down. I doubt that the digital level will come down to the Rebels though. I think that "smile detection" is much more likely to trickle up to encourage the upgrade from P&S by bringing the features that some of them have come to expect.

I meant to say they will focus on new technologies to be placed into pro/semi-pro bodies first. They know that people who either have the money to spend or who absolutely need to pay top dollar for the technology will do so. As the technology progresses or proves that it is worth while, then they will place it into a camera that appeal to the masses at a lower cost.

I would say that it is like many car manufacturers. Place the technology into a higher end car and see how it pays off, the people who can afford it, will buy it. If it all works out, then move it into a lower line.

I love my Rebel dont get me wrong, but I know that it is always a step behind the XXD or XD bodies.

Yeah in features generally, I just wanted to say that the rebel is important to Canon and probably makes them more money than any other SLR in their lineup. And they aren't a step behind the xxD lineup in image quality *giggle* just wanted to gripe.
