View Full Version : LCD Screen in the sun

I find it quite difficult to read of my LCD screen on a sunny day if there is no substantial shade available. turning your back on the sun, cupping your hands around the screen and squinting does not help enough - even with brightness boosted.

Anybody have any tips here?

You could look into the " Hoodman"
Some people like it ;others don't.

I've heard carrying a toilet paper cardboard core can help! If you do outdoor photography, then bring the whole toilet paper roll with you - it can do double duty.

To DigGuy - thanks for the link - I saw someone using a similar gadget and didn't know where to find one.

Isn't there a related thread on "Chimping"? I think I saw a link to SportsShooter than contained some "Chimping" techniques.

I though chimping was supposed to be a no no. Or at least socially degrading.

The TP roll sounds interesting. It shouldn't be too hard to find some square container of the right size that would do the trick.

See? I knew there would be some simple explanation! Thanx!

What is "Chimping"?

I have a hoodman that I didn't glue the mounting bracket to the camera so as not to have excess junk attached. I keep the hoodman in my shirt pocket when I will be shooting a lot outside on a sunny day and simply hold it against the LCD when I want to see the display.

Chimping is only frowned upon when you are around serious photographers -- when in other social situations it is perfectly acceptable. In fact, not to chimp especially when at a family affair, is looked on as downright rude behavior. :-)

Surely it's cooler never to be seen checking your screen :D
