Hello,

My problem probably has a simple solution and that makes me feel pretty dumb but----I have a picture to post on this site but the system won't take it because the file size is too large. How do I reduce the file size from 2.45mb to 100kb?

What program are you editing your images with before you print them? I use Photoshop, and it's super easy to just go into the "image" menu and choose "image size" then reduce the number of pixels a bit. ( you need to make is smaller than 800 x 800 pixels to post it anyway) Then when you're saving it, lower the quality a bit to help reduce the file size. Like for a jpg, you can save it as quality 3 or 4 in Photoshop and it will still look good enough online. For printing you wouldn't do that, obviously. Or use "save for web" in photoshop and let it make a nice little gif out of it.

I'm sure other programs do basically the same thing. Some are free, but I haven't used any of those in a long time. Sorry. Maybe try Picasa or IrfanView. On a Mac you can use GraphicConverter, an awsome free application. Good luck.

If you are using using Photoshop, you can simply open the image and select "Save for Web" from the file Menu. It will open a dialog box where it shows you the final file size. You have the option to reduce and increase the image quality until it reaches below 100KB.
I hope this helps. If you are not using PS, then almost every decent software allows you to select "Save As" where you can select the JPG compression/quality level.

If you don't have PS, you can get a copy of PhotoImpact 6 or 7 on ebay for about US$20. You can save jpg files anywhere from 100% of original size down by 1% increments.
