Does an elopement count as a first wedding? In this case, I think it should!

The Office filmed their famous wedding scene onboard the Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls. I was lucky enough to ride the boat for two takes of the wedding scene. The bow of the boat was crew and extras, The rest of the boat had tourists. I've ridden the boat countless times, and this was the wettest ride I've ever been on---the boat bobbed and rolled quite a bit more than normal, too. The two stars were absolutely drenched, but never missed a single beat during their scenes. Thankfully I had a 1d IIn and 24-70, as my camera and lens were soaked. I had to resort to wiping the lens off with paper towels a couple times---unbelievable.
Their film crew was incredible in how fast things were done and how complete a take would be so quickly. The way it was done was almost live, it was that efficient. Very much like the show airs, in fact.
It was very cool to see in person!

After filming the wedding vows, they moved to the back of the boat as it exited the base of the Horseshoe Falls. You can see how drenched they were by his jacket. The two stars wore housecoats in-between the two boat rides.
The person taking the picture is wearing a wristband, denoting he is an extra.

Last two. In the first, see another orange wristband on the woman at left.
In the 2nd, the weather conditions caused by the falls and mist is detailed. The mist was dominating the lens by this point. I wiped it off a few times with paper towel, which was soaked as well. All in all, though, I got some really good shots and am very happy with them. In the background of the 2nd shot, check out the wave approaching the bow of the boat. The actors did one heck of a job to stay on task with the elements that were happening around them. I couldn't believe it. Watching from the sidelines, it all appeared to be real, of an actual wedding. That's how good they pulled it off, during some very adverse conditions.
The Captain is an actor, too, and is the producer of the show, I believe. The real Captain was at the wheel.

Be aware that some crops are not ideal for the image, but I chose to leave them this way to get the behind-the-scenes look. I didn't want to lose that look by cropping tighter or moving subjects out of center in a few.

Interesting that the only lighting "help" (that we can see anyway) is one reflector...

The wrist band was worn by the extras. There were 35 extras plus film crew & stars, equaling about 70 people in total. The boat loaded about 100 tourists for the ride, too---they had the top deck and the back part of the lower deck.

I just watched this episode the other day on Hulu. I love The Office.
They only showed small clips from their elopement in the final cut. Probably because of all the water and noise. They showed just enough to give you an idea of what they were doing.
They probably also worked so efficiently because of the conditions. But they probably work pretty quickly on a regular basis too.

Final Shot, the kiss. Notice how he is bracing himself for the waves!
I love inside info. Thanks very much.
