I really like the composition. The colors are beautiful. It makes me want to grab a good book and sit under the tree and read.

another really nice image AWG, nice placement of tree trunks on the canvas. I think if you measured the distances trunk to trunk and trunk to edge you would find the golden mean ratio.

I'm not really sure of the intent.

I agree with the Golden Means comment. Measuring between the trunks is almost analogous to reconstructing space depicted in a Piero della Francesca painting - most famously "Flagellation of the Christ"

I also agree with ADAPTE - it does need something to draw the viewer into the 'space' as described above.

Good to see that you are evolving - but don't stop, you've got much to cover still.

One more thing - how come all your scenery shots are devoid of people or life forms higher than vegetation? It's Wisconsin and there may be more cows than people, but nary a bird in sight.

Do you smell bad or are you incredibly ugly that animal scurry away in fear? :p

Autumn is colorful but this is the time most people start to feel empty
within- worst in Winter....Did you feel it ? I played around with the tree
spacing and left that hole in there...(If you noticed, there are 3 trees from a distance that are empty too. No leaves at all). As I said before, I like paintings...

It just happened that it`s sunset and now I`m a believer of timing in photography. That leaves glow beautifully without any post processing....

Excellent shot. Good focus. Must have used a smaller aperture like f8 or f16? I can see the farther sky and bushes in focus.

I like it in B/W too ... sepia toned, cropped it a bit tighter. I am a texture junkie and I think image has some nice textures. Had to sharpen the image to make the shapes snap. I am wondering why the sky on the left is whiter than on the right.

Looks much better in color IMO...try turning down the saturation just a touch...the orange in the trees looks slightly blown out. Or just run a wide burning brush over the entire tree to tone down the exposure just a hair.

I should have said I like it in B/W too ... the color is definitely nice.

I was using a circ. polarizer. This pic came directly from Raw and no cropping or PP done. Except saving it to Jpeg...

You can definitely see the hot spot on the leaves on B&W. That`s the harsh reflection of sunset hitting the surface.

Is this the same location where your other shot is? Polarizers tend to saturate colors. If you get a chance try a shot without the polarizer and see if there is a difference. I think it's easier to PP with a flat image that a saturated image.

I really like this image.

jetcode: yes, same location. Those were the same trees on the background. Still, both shots had CP attached.

Since the leaves already provide intense color there is no real need for adding the warm light of sunset. In this case shooting late afternoon before sunset may help control the extra saturation.

Jetcode: What about paintery effect? I just played with 6 layers of the image and gave a hint of painting...

The composition is "Sadness Behind A Smile."
The closest subject you see in the canvas are colorful Autumn leaves(trees) and the reflecting sunset on the foreground. (I call this Smile) then If you look at the very center of the canvas, there is an empty space looking ahead on the barren lifeless trees from the distance. This is how Fall is. It`s a prelude to the coming Winter.... This applies to most of us. There are happy moments right now and we tend to look ahead and worry about the future...

or

B&W version?

I still think you are trying too hard with post processing, and ignoring the fundamentals. You shouldn't worry about post processing until you get better at taking a more fundamentally sound photo to start with, as I believe I suggested previously.
