Help Camera won't FOCUS

I am trying to take a picture of the blue sky to test sensor. Camera will not focus. I have the 18-55mm lens open to f22 on Av. Focus confermation light just flashes. What is the deal? Any suggestions please. Thank yo

There is nothing that the camera can focus on in plain blue sky. Set the focus to manual and set at infinity.

Great thanks. I will do try that, there were a few clouds so I figured it would focus.

A 20D uses contrast to focus. A plain solid colored object or surface has no contrast except at its edges or at clouds in the sky's case. It's called passive focus. Should be in your manual.
