Wondering if people who use this to clean their sensor's have any tips or techniques they can pass on. I'm hoping it can help get rid of some persistant oily residue as well as the dust. thanks.

Rob,
No special technique. Remember to twist the cap cover every stroke before use as instructed, this makes sure there is a clean carbon surface ready for use.
I always blow off any loose dust with canned air, then my Arctic Butterfly (this is a waste of money and a good quality artists sable brush kept for the job is just as good) for good measure so I know I've shifted anything already loose.
Then its a careful wipe over with the SensorKlear before repeating the above. I always run a test between every wipe, so I know if I'm gaining on it and where "IT" is!
If you go the canned air route, the can has to be used completely upright at all times and any liquid residue cleared from the nozzle. I hold the camera so that any dust falls down and out of the body.
Give yourself time. This is not a job to be rushed.

I just hit it with a few blast from the rocket blower and take a peek(sensorklear loupe) to see where to use the pen. Works pretty well.

I think if you have oily residue on there, you need more than a dry-clean method

Homer,
The SensorKlear is very good at shifting exactly that kind of residue.

Actually, the SensorKlear seems to be one of the few things that does a good job on this particular form of sensor snot.
I just use my SensorKlear and a Rocket Blower...still not sold on using canned air...have seen the damage done by it by inexperienced operators....

Canned air on the sensor is a No No...... I clean my own sensors and I'd never do that one.

Canon camera techs use the stuff themselves according to posts here. It does need to be used with a degree of commonsense, which might be a problem for the less mechanically minded.

Just back on the pen for a moment, so do you just apply the pen to areas where the dust/residue is or an all over swipe like the wet methods?

I just wipe wherever the gunk is.

My 30D sensor is too small to be over precise, either that or my eyesight needs to be better. So I try to do the whole sensor each time unless I'm chasing that one last elusive bit.
