I am interested in what you think. I am completely new to the world of DSLR's so I don't know all the jargon as to the picture specifics. I picked up a used 40D and the lens was a canon 28-80. That is about as technical as you are going to get from me at this point.
Thanks in advance.

First of all nice scene. I wish I were there riding my mountain bike.
The stray branch to the right top is distracting.
The picture doesn't look as sharp as it could be.
A tab bit more sky than was necessary.

It is very soft and OOF ...getting the data from the photo helps figure out what your settings were;)

It is technically wrong, soft and OOF, but honestly I like it... adds an artistic edge ;)

Thanks.
OK I think I have the data on the photo it say 1/160 iso 100 and the there is a number 7.1? It was taken in the auto landscape default.
And it seems like all of my pictures are slightly out of focus, suggestions.

7.1 is the aperture, which is too wide for a deep landscape like that unless you are focusing pretty far into the distance and don't mind a blurry foreground. The larger your aperture (smaller number) the shorter your depth of field.
I would highly recommend pickup up a book like Understanding Exposure to learn about photography some more. Learn to use manual mode and unleash the true power of your new DSLR.

dont worry i was just like you about a year ago i had no idea what all those numbers meant but lil by lil i got the hang of it. its just a matter of practice if you are able to take some classes i highly suggest it. in my opinion your composition could of been a bit tighter. maybe show less sky to bring the focus to the mnts. Also as previously stated the branch on the right is a bit distracting

All thats been done is a small sharpening in photoshop cs3 using the unsharp mask of about 190 at 0.9pixels and I've done a quick curves adjustment as there was too much blue. Its probably not perfect as I didn't bother checking that the channels were balanced. A duplicate layer was made and blended using the overlay mode. Finally a quck crop improves the composition. This image is embedded from my flickr account and will always produce sharper images than attatchments. As I do not hold the copyright please inform me at any time if you want the image deleting,
