Little background first.

The first lens I bought (in the current era) was the 70-200 f4. It was a good lens. used it for a while, then bought the 24-70. After that purchase I thought the 24-70 was the best versatile lens Canon ever made, I even thought it was the best thing after sliced bread. Since then I never used the 70-200, it was just sitting there in the bag taking valuable real estate.

Well today I was shooting my little nephew and his little twin sisters playing at the pool. You can't get close to them for fear of water getting to the lens & camera. So time to get the ole lady out, and it was getting dark. Upped the ISO to 1600. Went home to look at the pics. OMG! even with the somewhat challenging light, that lens managed to get crisp and detailed photos. Wonderful photos.

My hat is off to the ole lady...the 70-200 f4.

Glad You rediscovered this nice lens. After reading the first paragraph I thought this was leading to the conclusion that You were going to sell the 70-200

Even though my preferred long lens currently is my 300 f/4 IS I would never sell my 70-200, well at least not without getting the 70-200 f/2.8 IS to replace it

That was my second thought after seeing the pics :D

Edit: no IS for me, 2.8 will do just fine.

That is a great combination :) Too bad I have none of the above. However, the 70-200/4L is definitely on my wish list :)

Oh my god!!! That's precisely my wishlist! I bought the 70-200 f4 after reading many positive comments about it on this forum and I'm now saving up for the other two.

I love my 70-200. It gives wonderful bokeh and it's very sharp even when wide open.

Oh, I should have mentioned that all photos were taken at f4.
