Thought i would post this to show scale in the insect world, and leave it at full frame no cropping, this midge as we call them [UK] is tiny but the leaves look so huge and the buds behind it are like hugh mounds, when my flash went off it must have seemed like the end of the world to it, comments welcome

Very cool Martin. He's like a mountaineer scaling a rock face! :D

Love the photo, I feel an affinity with the bug! Are there different kinds of midges? I remember being eaten alive by some but thought they were black.

Nice shot :)

Its not the infamous Scottish 'Wee Midgie'!!! They are black, and very very small. Terribly difficult to see as individuals, far easier when an attack formation of several hundred is heading towards you. Bugg*rs to flatten

That's right. The wee Scottish midge is black. And you won't attempt to photograph them, as the swarm will have eaten you alive before you've got the change to point the lens at one.

If you'd asked me, it's a green fly, not a midge.

Very nice shot though.

Great shot, Martin! Every time I look at the little fellow, this tune starts playing in my head:

Very nice shot though. In the northeastern US, we have a similar bug. We call them black flies.
