how do i upgrade my firmware, it is version 1.1.0 and what are the differences between this and the new firmware?

the power swtich has 3 positions and i read the manual and it says one position is so the scroll wheel doesnt work, but it works in all positions.
can someone explain the differences in the two on positions?

thanks!

Go to the Canon site, find the firmware download page, there are instructions on it.

The scroll where on the back of the camera, not the one on the top, only works when the power switch is in the 2nd position. In the middle position it doesn't work.

what would be the point of it not working? seems kind of strange? better for a custom funciton? can someone please explain this?

It prevents you accidentally bumping that dial, which can happen some times, and screws up your settings. It'd be annoying if you bumped it and changed from 1/100 to 1/10th, for example.

Yes, the rear dial is just about where my nose goes when I am shooting. My nose can budge the rear dial by a couple of clicks. However, I use the rear dial a lot, so I need to leave the switch in the last On position to keep it enabled.
