UPS delivered my new DO an hour ago. Hoo boy, it is amazing.
The third generation IS is awesome. It fits into the same Tamrac top loader style case as my Tamron 28-300. Whoo boy.
Here are two sample pix I snapped just for fun in my back yard. My yard bear, Toby. And my male Doxie, Bayley.

Okay Dante, I changed my signature. Had a different UPS driver so it was earlier than usual. Still had enough daylight to snap a couple of pix.
You could have said something nice about my dog ;-)

I realy like your dog! Sorry, I didnt want to offend you. I thought it was an overweight saimese cat. LOL j/k. Actually I love dauchaunds (SP?). My wife grew up with them and they are feirce and great for guarding the house and new DO lenses.

There seems to be some kind of perspective distortion on the dog photo...

To get a full on profile shot of him I have to borrow the wifes 16-35 L and step back quite a ways.
For a 45 degree shot I need and inordinately deep DOF to keep hom in focus

Mine arrived today, also. Looks very good so far. It's not going to outresolve the 300/4L prime, but it appears to have some very good rosolution. I'll run it through some serious testing when I'm not destined to go to work (and when the weather is more cooperative).
So far, I find that the 1/3 stop from f/5.6 to f/6.3 makes a very big difference in image quality. The IS is very effective. I need a clearer day to really check the contrast and resolution but it looks like a winner. Focus is spot on. It's compact and I like it.
I'll try to get a full review together in a few days.

Welcome to all the fellow DO club memebers. Now we need to elect a president. I nominate Skip's Dog.
