Yet another engagement session, I think I am getting better. The park was lovely tonight.

I really like them. Very nice. However, the only thing I'd work on is their expressions. They seem too... rigid. And it's very similar across a few pics, try to make them more relaxed...

But in general I really like them, I can feel the love between them!

I'm wondering why her hair is up in a ponytail in the last few ones? If so, why not a nicer clip or ribbon? Their attire is so much dressier than her hair shows in those.

Otherwise, I love those!! I really like the one on the bridge with the reflection.

She decided to put her hair up, I guess I should have paid more attention, but she wanted some with her hair up.

Nice Pics. But one thing the Green seems a little off. Just my 0.02.

I would've popped a flash on some of those. That's my 2 cents.

He looks especially unrelaxed in all the photos. She looks atleast like she's somewhat trying.

I actually prefer the shots with her hair up .... it gives her face more of a balanced look.

hahahaha....those poses remind me of my photoshoot with my GF. We had this photographer and she kept telling us to lean and sit and yeah it was really funny. Same kind of poses :-) Also I had generally the same expressions (deer in headlights) as the guy in this photo! must be a guy thing. :-). and the fact that I spent most of the time checking out her equipment (camera that is- she had a set of really lenses - although they where N*korr).

do photographers have some kind of set poses you go through? or do you leave it up to the couple?

Good work!

But the gentleman needs to relax a little :)

Yes he wasn't very relaxed, the first thing he said when he showed up was "I hate getting my picture taken"
Great :)

PS, I did use flash on all of these shots.

AFAIK engagement photos main purpose is to help get the people used to you and used to being in front of the camera before the wedding. A flash bracket and an external flash would be a big advantage here.

I'm wondering about the arrangement for such a photo session. I mean do the photographer and "models" meet in a specified place at specified time then start shooting. Or you meet at that place, start talking, joking, discussing the session then start shooting. I thinking that the latter scenario help ease and relax the models/clients.

These are wonderful!

Toogy......really nice shots and compositions. The first two are great but the others have too much background happening and tree branches coming out of the top of his head. A longer focal length might have blurred the background better or positioning the couple in a different area where the background (trees) are further away would help. Were you using the 70-200F4? If you can get a hold of a 300 F4, it is amazing for sharpness and quality of the bokeh. Or maybe a 85F1.8..........nice work though, I am sure the couple will be happy with the shots!

I was using the Tamron 28-75, but I think for my next session I will try the 70-200 for everything.

Jeff.....I just recently purchased a 300 F4 and it is a wonderful lens. If you want to see what it can do, send me an email and I can let you try it out sometime. I'm in London and often come through St. Thomas.............btw.......apparently the Henry's main store in TO has a used 300 F4 for sale for $789 CAD!! That is a great price...........

Whew... I like the 2nd, 4th and the last two, but none of them are bad... good work!

The only thing I noticed was that it seemed hard to get a good exposure on both faces as the same time. I am sure the different pigment on the pair with her being really pale makes it difficult.

I like the first two and the last one best. And I prefer her with the hair let out. Third picture she looks a bit like she's grimacing. And he definitely doesn't look that comfortable in front of the camera. A shame, but they're a cute couple. :)

Try using a fill flash to get rid of shadows in the eyes and under the chin, but very nice poses
