I am planning to purchase the Rebel XT and have a few questions about this whole digital world. I am very familiar with the SLR 35mm usage, I own a Canon EOS Rebel2000 and used it for 4 years, so I know how to use the 35mm. I'm also a toy camera junkie, Holga, Holgaroid...

I have a 28-80mm lens and a 75-300mm that I use for me 35mm, can I still use these 2 lenses with the Rebel XT?

And this is probably a very dumb question but I mostly shoot in b&w, there is an option to switch to b&w with the XT before I shoot right??

And what's a RAW file?

Thanks a bunch, I need to know as much as possible about this camera before I make a huge investment.

Your best bet is to download the user manual from the Canon site. Then you will have all of the specifications. All of your old EF lenses will work fine. On that camera, there is an option to save the image file with a B&W flag. However, you may want to save the image file in color, and then do any B&W conversion in the computer.

A RAW file is an image file of the data straight from the digital sensor. It hasn't been processed or fooled with by the camera's special settings. So, it is sort of a "pure" digital negative. Once you transfer that RAW file to the computer, you can convert it to TIF or JPEG and do some corrections in the process.
