Hi All,

Shot Sydney's new indie-rock darlings Philadelphia Grand Jury at the Annandale last night. The show was sold out and packed with (and excuse my scathing criticism) people who I'm sure would only go to see a live band if someone cooler than them told them to.

In other news, I'm giving serious thought to only ever using the Tokina 11-16 for live music, that thing is sharper than a knife :)

Anyone, enough of my rant, here's some shots:

1 and 3 both look way too underexposed for my liking. 2's my fave from the bunch. Philly grand jury's on my list of bands to see, they go off live?

All are underexposed. But I too like #2.

Lighting looks very challenging so I think you did a good job, how fun are these guys to shoot? Loved them when they were up here in Brisbane.

I wasn't a huge fan actually... everyone else seemed to be enjoying though so I guess I was in the minority. I think for me it pains me to see a fairly average band (on paper) get so much handed to them - press coverage, good support slots, airplay, huge marketing and promotions budget - when in 12 months time everyone would have forgotten about them when the cool kids move onto the next big thing. Yes, I'm jaded...!

Oh well.... :p

Here's a few more shots for you:

the philly jays play good time, simple songs. case in point: going to the casino.

i like what they are doing as it inspires happiness and fun times.

musically they are far from challenging.

i'm looking forward to shooting them again soon, you've done a great job considering the lighting at the annandale mate. well done.

Thanks for the kind words, Benon.

I'll actually be down your way between Xmas and NYE (my folks live in Gawler) and I'll have my gear with me so if there's any good shows happening I'll have to look you up!

least The Annandale isn't looking at shutting down now after this new legislation came in

now they just need to fix their lighting, used to be pretty damn good
