Next week, I have a session to shoot portraits of two kids, 6 and 8 years old. It will be outside. I read a couple of threads about the settings I should use.
I came with the conclusion : high shutter speed, one point focus, AI servo. But I don't really know where to focus, because they are two!!!

How are you intending to pose them? Are these going to be "candid" or somewhat formal?

A couple of formal, posed shot. And some candid... so, both.

make sure you close down your aperture some, like to 4ish.

It really depends on the focal length that you are planning on using. The longer your focal length, the more stopped down your aperture needs to be. I recommend starting around f/8 to ensure that you have enough DOF to have the children in the acceptable focus area.

As for AF selection, I always focus on the eyes with one active AF point.

What I have been taught, is to adjust your aperture to give a bigger depth of field, and to get the two heads the same distance to the lens. However, if one child is behind the other, then you may want to focus on the ear of the closer child.

Thanks. It make sens. To photograph both kids, I will use my 17-55 and try to keep the aperture around f/8. I will use my 70-200 to play with DOF and be a little more artistic.
I would like the kids to have fun during the session. Where can I find ideas about great and funny poses to do with them?
