Went to an Air Show on Sunday. A lot of angst surrounding this show because Willow Grove AFB, outside of Philadelphia PA, is one of the bases slated to close according to the Pentagon's new recomendations. The weather was wonderful. It has been about 15 years since my last air show. Felt like a kid again.
All of the aerial shots were taken with my "Top Gun" 1D Mark II+300 2.8 (non IS)+1.4X............handheld:) I also used a handheld light meter to set the exposure. This was the 1st time I used this combo without a tripod or monopod. I was pleasantly surprised at the lens+converter's perfomance. All shots were sharp. Just a lot were not in frame:D Shot 4GB of RAWs in just 25 minutes. Spray & Pray as another shooter said.
Cheers,
Rob

good job Rob. i have been waiting to see if any other blue angel pics were going to be posted.(figured they had more stops than just Michigan).i can see where number one would be your favorite ,but i like the composition of number 3 with the loop de loop. something about that one really does it for me.

What great images. I especially like #1, and it is easy to see how this is your favourite. I have the chance tomorrow to see the Red Arrows at a local airfield, and your images have given me the impetus to go, taking my 20D with me.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. I was very pleased with the results. It was the first airshow I ever shot. The Blue Angels are going to be at Maguire AFB in New Jersey this weekend, June 5th & 6th. Maguire is about 1 hour away from me. I would go to see them again, but I am going to the Wachovia Pro Cycling Race. The WPCR runs through the streets of Philadelphia. It is pretty exciting to be within arms length of the top athletes. It is one of the top cycling events in the country.
I have no area of expertise, of subject, when it comes to photography. I enjoy trying to mix it up a bit. That is why I am a "journeyman photographer". I am not an apprentice, nor will I ever be a master photographer. Hence the term journeyman, accomplished but still learning and exploring.
Thanks again for your comments.

I appreciate your comments and praise. Go to the show. They are a lot of fun. I am sure the 20D is up to the task.

Gtreat Captures! I've never been to one of their shows, but they are top notch! Number one is great, but number six makes the day perfect!

Agreed. I keep telling him how lucky he is. I did not see my 1st airshow until I was an adult. Thanks for your kind comments.

It is also my favorite. The plane in the upper left of the shot almost looks 3-D. Lucky capture. Thanks for commenting.

We are going to have fantastic weather tomorrow. I am going to the Wachovia Pro Cycle Race in Philadelphia on Sunday morning. If it was not for the race I would be at Maguire. Good Luck. I look forward to seeing your shots. Thanks for your kind comments.
Cheers,
Rob
