I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for such a question, so if it's not I apologize. A few weeks ago I purchased a used 20D body which came with a battery, 1gb CF card, and the owner's manual; no software. I have one of the original Digital Rebels, and so the software that came with that is still installed on my computer. With my old camera, I had a 256mb Lexar CF card that came with its own card reader, and it worked beautifully. I would put the card into the reader, and simply open up "My Computer" and copy and paste the files to the folder I wanted. Easy. But the 20D came with a 1gb Sandisk card, so naturally I wanted to use that instead. I knew from experience that the Sandisk card would not work in the Lexar reader. So I bought a card reader, and everything worked fine. For a couple of weeks.

Now if I put the card into the reader and try to open up the folder to transfer the pictures, I get an error message that says "The drive is not formatted, would you like to format now?" At first I was confused and clicked "format", and lost a few pictures. Losing the pictures was no big deal, but not being able to put pictures on my computer was. I tried simply plugging the 20D directly into the computer with a USB cable, but the computer wouldn't recognize the camera because I don't have the software that came with it. Then I realized I could simply put the card in my old Rebel, and plug it in and upload the shots that way using the software that came with the Rebel. That, too, worked fine a few times, but now it has stopped working, as well. So yesterday I saw an 8gb Lexar card on sale, and bought it hoping it would work with the older Lexar card reader. But no dice. However, it did work in the Rebel the way I had been uploading. Now it's not working that way, either. It gives me an error message that says something similar to "No image files found of a recognizable format." Not those exact words, but similar. I can put the card back in the camera and the pictures are there like normal. Any ideas? :(

P.S. I'm using Windows 2000. I'm really thinking it may be time to upgrade.

If you go to the Canon USA EOS site, in the Product Archives (bottom of the EOS page)for the 20D you'll be able to download the latest versions of software to support Win2K and the 20D. This is an upgrade to the software you've already installed.

Lexar used to make a non-standard card and reader; that's why nothing else works in yours.

Have you got a scanner, fax, webcam or all-in-one installed on your computer? Sometimes their drivers collide with Canon's.

Nothing like that, but I'll go to Canon's website and look for the software updates. Also didn't know that about the Lexar card and reader. Thanks!

Okay, I installed the driver for the 20D, and updated ZoomEXBrowser accordingly, though I'm not sure what else, if anything, I need to do. Now when I try to download pictures using ZoomEXBrowser, it says "Camera not compatible"

I hate to bump my own thread, but I'm going on a trip tomorrow and plan to take my camera. I can either use my old 256mb cards and just try not to take too many shots, or I can use one of my new cards and wait to download the shots later, when I've either sorted this problem out or purchased a new computer. I'm considering buying a different card reader, but I'm hesitant to spend more money if I'll still have the same problem. But I may try it anyway. If anyone has any more suggestions I'd most certainly appreciate it! Thanks.

Have you updated the canon codecs? Raw Codec 1.2 or 1.5 should work with windows 2000, also if you know your motherboard try updating the drivers like the USB.

Good luck and enjoy you holiday.

I'm not sure how the codecs are listed on the site. I see things like "ZoomBrowser EX 6.1.1a Updater" and "WFT-E1A Utility 2.0 for Windows XP / Windows 2000¿" but I'm not sure which one does what. I did the ZoomBrowser update but I'm not sure that's what I needed to do.

Here's the page I'm on. I may not even be in the right place!

Thanks. :) I'll enjoy it and take lots of pictures, whether I can put them on the computer or not. :D

You'd need the Windows 98 SE/Windows 2000 TWAIN Driver 5.4.1 at the top of that after you chose Win2K.

Have you tried another card reader?

I tried that one first. Sorry, I forgot to mention it. :o I haven't tried another card reader because I'd have to go buy one, but I may have to try it.
