Another friend of mine needs advice. This friend is looking for a good quality p&s that is simple, easy, and small enough to take around. They've asked me for some advice, but I'm not the most knowledgeable on the brands and models. So:

I need a small, easy to use P&S for under $300. Any recommendations?

Canon Ixus 30, 40 or 50 depending how many Mega Pixels you want.

30 has 3, 40 has 4 and 50 has 5. However, you can easily get A4 prints from the 30 so you probably won't need higher than this. VERY easy to use, small etc. Lithium battery.

If you want something with AA batteries then get Canon Power A510 or A520 (3 and 4 mega pixels respectively). These also have manual operations as well as fully automatic if you want be creative and play around with Apertures and Shutter speeds etc.

Add a little and go for Canon A95. much larger than Ixus models though.

I own a Canon Powershot Pro 1 but my wife does not like to use it as it is big :-) so I just purchased a Canon S410 for her. I will receive it within a few days and it promise to be a good camera for her with just enough resolution (4MP), decent style, and sub-$300 price tag.

I've got both the S1 IS and the A95; either or would make for a great P&S camera, with the option to grow into. With the introduction of the S2 IS, I imagine the price of the S1 will come down dramatically.

I saw the A95 this week for $295 USD at on of the box or office stores (Colorado).

That would be my pick - comfortable to hold (more so than the new crop), 5M pixel gives large prints, lots of usable settings. I would have bought one but I have a Pro 1 and an A85 that I picked up (new) for $149 USD back in March.

I like the Canon S70.
It's a solidly built , slender design metal body camera and offers significantly wider view capability than any other point and shoot I've seen.

I have the A85 and I love it. Its small and fits in my cargo pocket easily. I even got the ad-on lenses and love it. I would reccomend the A95 for that extra megapixel though.
