Still making my way through all the photos I jammed onto my CF card...

Here is another one to share.

The curious thing is that I remember seeing other posts of Yosemite and thinking, "yeah, I've seen countless versions of the same in photo books"; but after my first up close experience I am awestruck by Yosemite's beauty. Everywhere you turn there's a photo opportunity.

A great shot of a classic scene! Was last there 19 years ago, but still remember it vividly.

Nice shot!!

Watch Glacier point on weekend mornings for Hang Glider pilots launching between 7:30-9:00 am. They take off right in front of the Geological hut facing Half Dome. The landing zone is the meadow just north of "swinging bridge".

I have flown there myself and have not been back to just take photos.

Wow! Look at the amount of water going over Bridalveil Fall! I'm sure it's been a long time since it's seen that kind of volume. I've taken several pictures from the same vantage point, but don't have any where the fall looks like that! :D

I wanted to get a closer shot but as I was walking up toward the fall, I saw several people walking away looking as if they had been in a mid-summer downpour. I thought the better of it. I had a camera investment to protect. LOL

I'm told that this is an exceptional year for runoff. Falls that flow every once in a blue moon were positively gushing. It was warm on Tuesday and Wednesday so I can't help but think the melting snow intensified the waterflow cascading off those rocks. It seemed that every time I looked at Yosemite Falls, the cloud of mist got bigger and bigger.

Easy to understand.
I stood there for the longest time...staring...totally awestruck.
Seriously, photos do not do the landscape justice. :-)

Very nice shot of the valley. I never tire of seeing this place, and a few other really special spots.

Nice pic!

I myself walked away drenched... here's a shot from the base of Bridalveil falls a few weeks ago (5-21-05... large image).

Nice shots! I also have a couple of Upper and Lower Yosemite. Looks like you took yours late in the day. (?)

Captures a very appealing mood.

I can't wait to go back. :-)

Thanks! Yes, the upper/lower Yosemite Falls shots were taken quite late in the day... around 6:30 or 7:00 pm I think.

I can't wait to go back either. I think I'll be heading back in early August. I'll have a tripod then, and hopefully a better understanding of how to get the best out of my camera :)

Great pictures. They make me want to pack up and go.

BTW - it looks like there might be dust on your sensor or lens, dark spot in about the same place on both photos.

Was that in response to the pics I posted links to?

After the Bridalveil Falls pics.... http://www.paulbgrimes.com/images/yosemite_5-21-05/bridal_veil_falls1.jpg, I ended up with some pretty bad smudging on my lens (from water droplets)... I didn't have anything to clean it with on hand. :(

Dang. You're right.
Time to fire up the ol' Photoshop. :-)

I surprised there wasn't more smudges on the photos I took. I was changing lens frequently.

I wish I hadn't ordered that larger print now. Oh well...

I like the way your Upper/Lower shots turned out in the dying light.

I regret not hanging around at Glacier Point to take a photo of the valley as the sun set....what a dope I am:o There were several people busy setting up their tripods to do just that.

Thanks Maureen.

All the credit goes to Mother Nature for providing a canvas of such stunning beauty.

Don't wait too long to "drive up the hill". You'll want to catch the wonderful views if the falls while they are still gushing with the winter runoff. :-)

Cheers

I think the winter snow pack will keep the falls thundering for another month....at least I hope so as I am off to Hawaii this weekend for a week of R&R.
