This was taken at an orphan house... Many years ago (I used B&W film)... I cried all the afternoon after I got home just by remembering all those boys that lived in such bad conditions...
Comments always welcome.

I may add that those boys were mentally disabled (is that the correct way to say it? )

i think that's a fair statement of their condition. it's nice to see that they still are able to smile, and prove that there are many things many of us take for granted. nice captures. thanks for sharing them.

great photojournalism photos Fer. Both, are so sad and touching photos, amazing.
Number 1, is my fav, may be I will darken some areas a little more, and add a little more contrast. Play with the levels, and may be a little grain will be great.
I thing the scan doesn't help too much. But the photo is great.

Well, Fer I made a fast PS adjustments to see if you like it, this is what I do:
1) Darken some areas, with burn tool.
2) Ad some grain, with noise (less than 1%)
3) Adjust the saturation (hue/saturation) in the different channels.
and I think thats it.
Do you like it?
Its a Before & After to see side by side the changes.
Cheers!

I'd say it's safer to bet that a smart person has more chances of becoming miserable than a mentally challenged one. Because the smarter you are the more you're thinking about stuff and it can lead to loops and constantly comparing thinking what's better, best, while if you're somewhat a low IQ person, you tend to think less and, well, feel more. Mentally challenged people pretty much mostly know they are mentally challenged, but they just accept it as a fact and do not look down on themselves - this I respect.
I find both images great, especially the second one, since the first one delivers too little information to understand it properly. To me they are also touching, bot not in a, weeping-crying way, but more in a, this-is-life-too way.
Also, I find pitying disabled people is wrong.

Me too, and I know much about them, specially since I have an autistic brother 3 years younger than me.

The grass is always greener on the other side, some people just don't realize how damn good they have it!!!
Great shots!!
