View Full Version : 7D video - Remote??

I've tried, with some success, shooting birds in the garden using a wireless remote. I'd like to try doing the same with video, but obviously the available remotes won't work because the shutter button doesn't start the video recording. Are there any solutions?

The canon RC1 works to some extent...It communicates via IR so this limits your range and must be line of sight with the front of the camera (outdoors..indoors you do get some leway if you can bounce it off a wall) where the IR sensor is.

Good news is it's cheap at around $25...

Yes, but it just emulates a shutter press, does it not? I've already got wireless remotes that do this - as I said in my post.

No...regular wireless releases will not work. Yes this will work. But you don't have take my word....try google.

Or go read Canon's description of the remote.

Or try your manuel that came with the camera...It's covered in there.

Or continue to believe what you want.

You asked, I answered....I'm not gonna argue with ya.

The RC1 and RC5 can also start/stop video recording. Also, if you plug the video-out cable into the jack, don't need it plugged into anything, just hanging there, it will turn off your LCD screen to save battery juice (which could allow you to leave it set-up-and-ready for long periods of time, as long as you've adjusted your sleep settings of course)

So it is. Sorry about that.

Hi
If you have a wireless laptop and an IPad then you can connect laptop to 7D camera via USB cable and use a remote control IPad app for wireless connection to laptop (via ad-hoc network connection between laptop and IPad). Laptop will be placed under tripod and you control everything remotely by IPad. This type of remote control via IPad is likely described elsewhere on Internet so I will not go into a lot of detail here.

You can also use two laptops with Canon's remote software installed on one of them. This laptop will be connected to 7D via USB cable and second laptop connected by wireless ad-hoc. Both laptops will need VNC remote control software installed. The laptop connected to camera will need the VNC server and the other laptop you will use to control camera will use the VNC viewer. You can learn about VNC at other internet sites so will not provide much detail here.
