Hi I got my XT about 2 weeks ago and currently still using the first full charge (2 batteries with the grip).
Right now I have 1 block of battery remaining but this Sunday I am going on a hiking trip in which a lot of shots will be taken (I hope at least :) )
With new batteries, I heard after the first full charge, I should completely drain it out before charging the second time, is this true?
So should I just drain the battery out by to recharge it or is it ok to just recharge it as it is right now?
Or does it not even matter heh.

Just recharge the batteries when they are half-drained or whenever convenient.
With this type of battery, it is recommended not to drain them down completely flat.
These are lithium ion batteries, and the rules about NiCd and NiMH batteries do not apply.

That is why you should always have a 2nd set of batteries...
Sterlingtek have them for $12, and they are 1800mha batteries...

These batteries are NOT meant to be drained. So don't do that. If you want them to last long you store them medium to fully charged in a room temperature place (not hot).

Agree with Jackal. If there is anything that can kill a battery it's heat!

I've shot all day on a 20D on 3 batteries, that was a cold day too. Sterlingtek batteries work well. For battery info a good place to go is http://batteryuniversity.com
