Crop question i.e. 1.6 magnifier

I understand that the DSLRs have a magnification of 1.6x for EF series lenses. Do I need to adjust my zoom to compensate for this, or can I trust that what I see in the viewfinder will be in the finished picture? Seems like a rookie question, but I've noticed that I tend to cut off the top of my son's head when shooting close up. (could be me, not the lens:)

If you have a DSLR camera you can trust what you see in the viewfinder. It may be very slightly off but it has nothing to do with the size of the sensor.

i think what you see in the viewfinder is approx. 95% of what you will see in the finished picture. In Horizontal position, you will definitely see the difference in the horizontal, but not as much on the vertical.
