I was at the UO vs. UW game this Saturday, this is what I took. Comments / crits are very welcome, please be harsh. I want to know what I'm doing wrong and how to improve. All taken with a 1d Mark 3 and 300/2.8 IS, sorry for stripped metadata. All are around 1/1000th, f/2.8, ISO 200.

Jack, I actually like them all, each one has a unique sense of action ... well framed and composed. Exposures and colors look spot on. Very few minor things, like the foot/leg in #5, hand/arm in the last one...a little cloneing will clean that right up. #1 and #4 are my favs, as its just the players and no 1/2 bodies to muddy the image. You did bueno!

I do agree with you on the extra body parts around the edges, but since I shoot for a my college newspaper I'm not allowed to clone out parts of the image. For portfolio work I believe I may go ahead and clone them out.

Not really much to tell you! They're all great but number 4 stands out the most. Well done.

I was using a rented 1d3 and 300/2.8 IS. I really want to buy them, too bad I can't afford it.
Thanks everyone for the compliments, though I'm still hoping for some criticism. There's always room to improve.

Fine then... shot 6 - shutter speed too slow, you lost the hands and face of the receiver.
Believe it or not, because of the types of shots, a few of these are light tight for submission because they don't have any space for cropping - 4 and 5 specifically.
Happy now? :p

Yes, quite :P
And I know what you're saying about the crops being tight, which makes it hard to print. When i'm sending my pictures to the newspaper they're all cropped a little looser, then get cropped down in layout. Nearly all the pictures they ran ended up cropped almost exactly the same as these though.

Nice low angle. Looks like you're about knee-level on #1 and it really helps.

All great shots, i know it was hard to get a good exposure on the oregon duck jerseys.

If I had to guess, 6 and 7 would be kneeling. The rest look much lower, probably ~1ft or less from the ground. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The shots look great to me! A hair more of the ground would be nice in #2.

You're absolutely correct Ben, I did lie down on the ground for quite a few of these.
Thanks for the complements, I'll keep it in mind to have a bit more of the ground visible than in #2 in the future.
Expect more pictures next week, I'm shooting the UO vs. USC game on saturday. All my friends are incredibly jealous that I don't have to buy a ticket, I guess they don't realize that I actually have to do work.

It must be nice shooting on an artificial surface, you can get extra low! When I am lying down I always have to worry about 6"+ patches of grass, haha.
I think the perspective is perfect in #1 and #3, but I don't mind the last two either. The other ones are a bit too thin on ground.
When shooting that low make sure you keep your horizons straight or it is very noticeable. It seems like #3 and #7 may be slightly off, but I'm not positive.

I was just noticing #7 myself. I'm not positive about #3, it looks level to me.
Another thing about artificial turf I've been noticing is that the field is ever so slightly domed, which helps me be even a little bit lower compared to people in the middle.
