I should NOT have done this. I now see how the addiction starts. My 70-200 f4 and the 1.4x TC arrived today. Even though it's cloudy out I just had to try it. Here are a few samples with the 1.4x attached. Nothing great, but I can see some potential with this lens.

I was trying to sneek up on a heron, but he kept flying away. My only choice was to get him in flight. Same with the little bird scooping bugs off the water. The picture of my dog surprised me only because I never saw the mosquito on his arm until on the computer. This lens is tack sharp, even with the extender on it.

Both bird shots are cropped a bit.

Nice shots. I've been debating on getting the 1.4x TC. Not knowing how the TC affects the sharpness. Where these shot wide open?

O_O!!!!!!!! It's THAT sharp with an extender? I've been considering getting a t-con for mine, but thought it'd kill the image quality....... that is very sharp for a cloudy day and everything!

Anyway, great first shots, and if you get the chance post a few more with the t-con attatched. I'm curious now to see just how well it performs in various situations. :)

The heron was at 7.1; the little bird "wide open" at 5.6; and my dog at 9. I haven't had a chance to do a sharpness comparison with and without the TC, but my first impression is it won't be too degrading, if at all.

The heron is suffering from movement blur and the small bird is a touch out of focus as well.
Why on earth am i critisizing them??......Just to let you know how much more you'll like the lens when it's at it's best:D :D
You'll continue to be thrilled with this lens for a long time to come;) .Nice choice

By the way-i see some are wondering about sharpness difference with and without the extender. Here is a link to someone that's done equal-magnification tests-

Yeah. Those darn birds just wouldn't stop mid-flight. :) The little birdie was darting all over the place an was nearly impossible to keep it in the view finder. I'm actually surprised either came out for all the camera movement.

It cleared up a little tonight, so I tried out a sunset shot. No motion blur here.

Leorooster - - The EXIF data changed a bit from shot to shot, but I think they were all 400ISO, and I tried to keep the shutter around 1/1000 because there was a lot of movement followign the birds.

Alexia - - Sorry 'bout that Alexia. It was the 20D. I think my sig now says that.

the 70-200 f/4 is a great lens and almost no loss of resolution with 1.4 T-con you pics are great too :-)

Nice shots - The extender really comes into its own on a long prime. It is possible to get great results on the zoom, quality of lighting really helps.

Yes. I use AI exclusively (almost) because I have the focus set to the * button. I can lock in focus just by releaing the button, but keep the exposure active with the shutter button.
