Hey, so I am going to Hawaii in January for a second time. Last time I brought a 40D/30D Sigma 17-70 and a 70-200 F/2.8 IS.

Got all the good shots I could want, now I am going a second time and want to somewhat lighten the load. But also have fun.

I acquired a Hasselblad, with 50 F4, 80 F2.8 and 150 F4, I would like to bring this kit for fun mainly, but would also like a digital counterpart.

First I was thinking purchasing a E-P1, or GF1, for the portability, but also retain a decent camera or just bring the 40D 16-35 and 70-200 2.8 IS.

What would you do?

Personally, I would just take the 40D, 16-35 and the 70-200. That would be an easy enough kit to carry around and would give you plenty of versatility.

On the other hand if you are looking for something new and shiny, you could buy something like a 24-105f4L , which I have come to love as a walk around lens for traveling, even on my 30d's crop sensor.

I was in Hawaii for 2 weeks earlier this year, I agree, one wide angle zoom, and then one super zoom, so something like what Aussie mentioned in the 16-35 and 70-200 would be happy for me, maybe throw in a small, mid length prime

Hawaii is fun, and I think you guys saved me to money I would have spent on a E-P1.

Now I need a netbook.

I used my 17-55 f/2.8 for pretty much 95% of my pictures.

Yeah im pretty much debating bringing the heavy 70-200 2.8 IS. Even thought of buying a used 70-200 F4.

If you don't really see much of a need for the long end. I would go with a 16-35 and a 50mm.

Sometimes being stuck with what you have can yield some excellent shots because you are less focused on gear than on the photo.

When it comes down to it, you will have a good time no matter what you bring I am sure. the 70-200 2.8 IS is a beast, but only you can decide if it will be worth you carrying it.

We got back from Maui two weeks ago. That is one of the reasons we purchased a Canon T1i upon our return and joined this forum. The camera we took with us was Kodak C530 point and shoot (don't laugh or sneer). We visited so many wonderful places and took lots of pictures. Well, you can imagine my disappointment when I looked at those pictures. Now my wife tells me we have to go back. My reponse is to wait a year or two when I am comfortable with this complex device.
