I usually just use one AB800 in the reception hall when i shoot weddings. I have one coming up and the ballroom is quite big that I think I need to use 2 AB800's.
My question is, how would you position the lights:
1.) across each other on each side of the ballroom
2.) both lights on the same side, each facing in opposite direction
3.) both on the same side both facing the other side of the room
I've seen Tim's setup where both speedlights are across each other.

The best setup is the one that works. You have to consider interfering with the flow of walking traffic, risk of tripping on cords, what you can use as a bounced light source (ceiling, walls, etc.), and where the head table and dance floor are.

Depends what you're trying to light, the whole room or part of it. Also depends on the wall/ceiling color.

ceiling is somewhat white and walls are light brown (wood).
I can probably bounce it off the ceiling.

I'd do exactly what I say I do in my "how I like receptions" thread, with the light bounced from the white parts of the ceiling near the head table. Just move the lights when you need the dance floor covered.
