I'm still a newbie around here...usually post on dgrin, but I thought I'd share a few from a recent engagement session at a local mansion/park. We've been having a lot of rain around here, so it was nice to get some sunshine! C&C welcome! More on my blog here (http://www.birchtreephotographyblog.com/2009/10/pittsburgh-engagement-photos-for-heather-and-dave/).

Nice group of images!

1. Not crazy about this image. I think it makes them look older than they are, but maybe that's just me. Static composition, etc. Not bad necessarily but doesn't move me...
2. Great shot! Good composition, nice colors. I think it could be improved by cropping it slightly but really nice shot.
3. Ok, it seems a bit busy, but overall ok.
4. Nice conversion.
5. The background is a bit blown out but otherwise, GREAT shot! Really nice feel and composition.
6. I love this shot, and love the backlighting, but hate that his foot is cut off and there's no room in front of them compositionally. It seems like this would have worked much better as a horizontal...
7. Great colors, nice feeling. Again, I would probably prefer this as a horizontal image.

Overall, great series. Nice work! Understand that these are my opinions only and if you follow everyone else's opinions then you lose your signature, whatever that is. So, I apologize if I seemed critical here, I didn't mean to... ;)

Thanks for the feedback! You're definitely right...there's always many options to composing a frame. As for the running one...yeah, wish his foot had been in it, too, but I like the expression in their faces. And I have some horizontal ones with that lovely tree...but I really wanted to draw the eyes upward (or downward) by using a vertical composition.

Personally, I like 7 with the vertical composition.

Nice shots!

I also don't like that his foot is cut off in 6, but like you said their expressions are great so it makes it work.

Overall I really like them, good poses and composition!

Nice captures and compositions.
I don't know if it's just me but she looks like a 'Cougar' in #4, no? I saw the others on the blog and she indeed is a 'fine young lady' but #4 just says grrrrowl.

Ha...never thought of that and can't say that I see it...they're both the same age!

6 is SUCH a good shot (just get the foot in there next time, but it's not a dealbreaker cuz the focus is on her anyway [and she's a looker, eh?])

Bravo.

#5 and #7 do it for me. The rimlight is icing on the cake in #5, and the bokeh has a nice prime lens look in #7...not that the client cares about bokeh, but I like it.

Thanks! Yeah, that's my 85 1.2L II with the bokeh...

Yep - the 85 has a special sort of swirl in the bokeh once you get wider than f1.8 especially. Wide open it's the bomb.
