Funkoars @ Elizapalooza '09

The two previous times I have shot the Funkoars I've also lined up a publicity shot that I feel best represents what the oars are about. Those two shots (backstage at live at the zoo with alcohol tickets and mock guns to their head and the shower shot in the green room at the gov) have set the bar in my head for any future shots of the guys. At Elizapalooza I had an idea to use a photocopier with the guys all crammed over it and the bright light shooting out of it somehow symbolising something overtly sexual, but i couldn't get the copier to function with the lid open, so there goes that idea.

Opening some closed doors, I found a hallway with a bookcase containing pamphlets relating to parental guidance for teens on all manner of topics including (most importantly) sexual matters. If I could pull the bookcase forward, shove the guys heads in from behind and add some alcohol to the mix we may just have a shot...

The guys were stoked with the idea and after a quick set up and positioning of the props we were shooting. 5 or 6 shots later and we had the keeper.

Check Hons' face! Classic. The binder book on the right reads: Parents, Teens And Boundaries, How To Draw The Line - which is a song title right there!!

Haha Gold, photos are great, but the write ups with your posts are what I enjoy most, keep them coming! Really loving the on stage shots, 4, 6 and 8 are my pick out of the bunch.

Funny story Bennon, was shooting up here in Brisbane at the Big Top, was backstage for hilltop hoods and this dude was running around with a big film camera all night, finally before the hilltop hoods came on I was standing outside the tent having a bit of a chat to this fellow camera/film dude haha (or so I thought) I said, man you look really really familiar, he goes... ah might be, I am DJ Reflux haha. Was chatting away having a laugh with him for the previous hour or so on and off, just a really really cool dude and only went prompted did he let me know who he was haha. I said 'man I saw these mad photos of you guys on an online forum, one crazy one with all you guys in bookcase with parental guidance pamphlets and a lot of booze, he cracked up and said hell yeah that was some funny ****, Bennon has the maddest ideas. So you got some big kudos there direct from the source ;-)

haha, thanks bud. yeah that's daniel. nice guy, but a word of advice: he will drink you under the table if you get on a bender with him!! lol! we have this thing going where i have to up my last effort each time i shoot a publicity shot of them - a challenge i am well up for!!

and if you haven't had the chance to see the funkoars and you like your hip hop i strongly suggest checking them out!

Haven't seen them unfortunately, I have known them for a long while though as there are a lot of references to them in Hilltop lyrics obviously... just checked their tour dates and it doesn't look like they will be up here for quite some time unfortunately either :-( Had an awesome night though on Friday, met Suffa, Pressure and Debris, I got my photos from the last gig I shot from the crowd up here in Brisbane to them somehow, sent a few emails back and forth with suffa who thought it would be cool for me to come and shoot at the big top more or less for them I guess... I figured I'd get access to the photog pit and would be out of there after 3 songs as per usual, was blown away when I worked out what access I had and spent the whole gig backstage enjoying it to the max. I am still buzzing from it, although I am really disappointed at the images I got, the Hifi shots seem to be a lot better, the moment must have gotten the better of me and I wasn't concentrating on what I was doing but living in the moment ahh well. Will post some shots up later anwyay for you to check out.

yeah the hoods are totally nice like that mate. shame you didn't get the goods tho :( next time focus! lol! i'm shooting their show at the jubilee pavilion this sat, will say g'day from you (but what's your real name?) i've got a few ideas i want to try... stay tuned :)
