One of my first attempts at the moon. Here's a 50% crop (postprocessed) of the moon:

Canon EOS 7D
ISO 400 + 1/60 + f/16
Sigma 50-500mm
Sigma 2x TC
Tripod + MLU + remote shutter

The hardest part about doing this shot by far is getting the focus spot on. If it's off even a little bit, the addition of the TC is for nothing. That, plus my ball head isn't really meant to support 8lb of gear pointed at a 60 degree angle. Works though. :)

I'd say drop the f/stop to get a faster shutter speed and lose the TC. That thing is super bright, there's no reason to have a 1/60sec SS. Especially if your mount is iffy with 8lbs on it. Make sure the moon is high in the sky to avoid as much of the atmosphere as you can.

I think with the equipment you're using you could get a much better shot.
