Looking for a ball head and stumbled across this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Redsnapper-Ball-Head-to-fit-Manfrotto-and-Gitzo-tripods_W0QQitemZ330371898165QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK _CamerasPhoto_CameraAccessories_TripodsSupports?ha sh=item4cebb31b35

Does anyone have any redsnapper experience? Is a fair bit cheaper than manfrotto ball heads and looks like a pretty good bit of kit.....

Unless you can find it available in retail establishments along with accessories such as extra quick-release plates, I would suggest that you ignore this item. Where would you go for repairs or additional information if you needed it?

Manfrotto, among others, is a widely distributed, well known, and well supported product line. This one is definitely not.

Well they appear to be an english company (though you can't tell if stuff is imported I know) and I emailed them earlier and got an immidiate reply direct from them so I think support would be ok, their web site is pretty friendly and like I am trying to do with some of the stuff I make- you have to start off small and work up so I can relate to them!

I would also be interested in a tripod and a mono, their tripods look pretty good also...

Oh, they also sell extra plates etc & offer a 3yr warranty on all their stuff...

Best place to learn more about themn is on Talk Photograpy (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/search.php?searchid=2552033) - where they're fairly consistent posters and often have special deals for TP members.

Listen, I know there are some decent stores that work through ebay, but keep in mind that you get what you pay for, and there is no free lunch.

Ask the company how long is the warranty on this head, as you will most certainly have to buy another one at that point. Of course, that depends on how much you use it.

But don't expect to get the same metallurgy or performance from what I assume is a Chinese knockoff as you would from a Markins or Kirk head.

Depending on what you are planing , I would stay with either bogen or Arca / RRS type .
Even Bogen sucks as far as Quick release plates go . I have 4 different QR plates for different uses and it sucks to have to change plates .
Then you go to the gimbal [ RRS type ]
Mono pod different -
Bogen makes a pancake type QR I am changeing to but adapters are either very expensive or not avalible .
Remember to order at least one extra QR plate for each head . One for camera and one for lens / or 2nd camera .
plates are avaible at
http://01eec50.netsolstores.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=24
and
http://www.tripodquickrelease.com/Quick_Release_Adapters.htm
You will notice redsnapper is not list on either site unless I missed and I really did not look that hard .
