Here's a rather unusual shot of a pitcher I got the other day. I prefer to shoot lefties from the first base line but from there I would have been shooting directly into the sun so I shot from third base line. 1DmkII, 300mm Canon f2.8, 1/1600 sec @ f5.6 AV ISO 400 one-shot AF from between home and third base.

I've seen some contorted looking shots of pitchers before, but this one is a first. I can't see how he could end up in a good position to field a ball hit up the middle though.
Cool shot. Thanks for sharing.

The shot is a bit deceptive because he actually ends up in a good fielding position. What you're seeing here is a very high but fast leg swing through during his delivery. He's in this position only a fraction of a second as his leg swings from behind him to in front of him. He has both feet on the ground by the time the ball gets to the batter's box. The pitcher is Sean Marshall, one of the top prospects in the Chicago Cubs organization.
