After much consideration (and invaluable help from this forum – thanks!) I bought a used D30 for X-mas. I just returned from 1 month in Thailand and Laos with lots of shots I could never have taken with my film EOS. In my opinion the D30 is a fabulous camera even with it’s known limitation of poor focusing.

Until the end of February I still have the option to swap the camera for a new D60 from the dealer (adding the x-tra bucks off course).

For you who upgraded from D30 to D60 what are your thoughts on the subject?

I know the different specs, but how does the difference materialise in practical shooting/working/results. I’d very much like your advice and opinions!

Difficult question to answer. I have both a D30 and D60. I must admit, not much difference in quality or usability unless most of your prints are 8X10 or larger. Sure the D60 has improved human-factors and more data to manipulate, but not that much different from the D30. I would go for the D60 assuming you consistently need large prints and the difference in price is reasonable. On the other hand I would keep the D30 and wait for round three in SLR digital technology that will be announced next month at the PMA in Las Vegas. And, as I pointed out in other forum threads, I truly believe the development pace of digital photography will follow Moore’s Law (Intel founder) that basically states technology performance will double every 18 months at the same price point. O’ the price we pay for early adopters! My web site has both D30 and D60 images and I bet you can’t tell which is which!
