I'm going to be traveling to Colorado for a ski trip and planning on taking some gear with me for some snowboarding shots. What should I do to minimize condensation problems due to change in temperature. What else should I be aware of when shooting out in the snow and ice?

Some of my friends make a inner pocket, under their cloths. so when they go to mountain specially in winter, they put reserve battery in it, so batteries do not loose their charge in cold weather.
and one things else they keep their camera in bag until they want to take pic and after taking photo return camera to bag. cold weather affect on lens focusing speed.
I'm looking forward to seeing your pics:)
have good trip

Take the battery out of the camera until you are ready to use it. The cold will affect the life of the battery. I've also heard, on the canon website, to put your camera in a gallon bag and seal it when you are outside and then bring it in and the condensation will occur on the outside of the bag. Let it return to room temp and then take it out of the plastic bag

What would happen if I take my room temperature DSLR out the door into 0 degree temperatures? Would anything happen due to the extreme change in temperature? I'd rather not test this in reality:)

Nothing would happen, your camera would work just fine.
I wouldn't start playing in and out of camera games with the battery, just limit your backscreen usage and the battery will last a lot longer. On a longer outing take another battery which you can keep in a warm pocket and change it if necessary.
About the bringing back inside, if you want you can put the camera in a plastic bag, but a normal tight camerabag should work just fine. Just keep it in long enough. If you want to look or process the pictures immediately take the card out of the camera before coming inside.
