I understand that the better quality a photo capture is, the less post processing you need to do on it.

I also know that sometimes you can take a poorly exposed shot and work miracles with some good PP'ing.

But how many wedding photographers to you think basically download the images straight from their cards and perhaps with the exception of a little cropping, present them to the clients?

Is that a 'sign' that you are on top of your game when you don't have to do any pp'ing?

I know Christopher Becker shoots jpgs and gives them to clients and if they want some of the shots pp'd he'd do it for them for extra charge per photo...

I wonder what "Picture Style" he uses.

I don't think this is true at all... actually, i would disagree completely. I think all pro's PP... or if they don't do it personally, they have someone do it. PP is a necessary part of the process... just like developing film in the lab, the negative wassn't the end result.. and neither is the raw or jpeg capture, sooc. It is true, that they may spend less time editing. I know that i certainly do now as compared to when i first started, and I would say that I actually do more work now... i just no exactly what I want to do when I look at a picture.

i really don't like to sit at my computer and twiddle dials, so i try to get as much right as i can in camera.

Whereas I LOVE "twiddling dials" in PP. :D Seriously, I do! I love watching the image become the best I can make it. It's very satisfying to me.

See thats the problem with me. I could be twiddling dials in PP for quite a while because i can't decide when an image is the best it can be.. there always seems to be something more i can do. Thats why i prefer to get a good pic sooc so i don't have to PP it. But i'm no pro...

I agree with RichLPhotography... everyone does some processing... no print in a magazine is exactly like it comes out of the camera...

My Workflow (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=2925618). No matter how well I expose the image, I can always make it better with basic PP in Bridge/ACR.

True, but I'd rather spend 5 minutes than 25 twiddling dials in photoshop :)

I'd love to read your workflow but it looks like one huge wall-o-text to me lol. Should space them out a bit

I recently spoke to a couple of wedding photographers about how much time they spend in PS per image and which techniques they use over a couple pints..interestingly every persons answer was completly different. One so called 'old school' friend doesnt do any PP what so ever even though he now shoots entirely digital, 2 guys spent a couple of mins per image cropping, changed the contrast and levels and one guy spent ages and ages on each shot.

I personaly spend anything between 20 seconds and 5mis per shot. I tend to tweak the levels, contrast etc.

I post process everything I show to my clients. No image straight out of the camera is ever perfect in my mind, I like to vignette them a bit and do some other things. I do use some presets to help make things faster though but do believe that the post production is a very important part of the art of photography.

Why are you posting in the wedding forum then?

I'll always spend some time on images.. even if only a minute or so... I'd never hand over OOC photos.. thats where a lot of photographers add their 'style' or signature processing to images..
