Here is my first attempt at capturing lightning earlier this summer.

Quite interesting. Tell us more about the capture, how did you did it?

Photo was shot with my Canon 10D, 24-85mm USM lens. Camera was mounted to a tripod, and set on bulb. Then I waited for the lightning. I believe that I took about 20 photo before I got that shot. The shutter was held open around 10 seconds for each shot.

Nice grab. Lightning is always challenging, yet fun. It's almost to bad that the center strike was closer and more vivid then the other 2, b/c without it, you would have gotten a lot more detail in the bolts on the left and right.

Can you provide the settings for the shot? When I pull the data from the shot settings, it comes up as a Nikon, shot at ISO 50, 8.9mm, and F2.8. Not sure if it's me pulling the data wrong, or if the shot data became corrupted somehow.

Come to think of it, that photo might of been taken with my Nikon coolpix 8700. I assumed that it was from my canon because they both use the compact flash memory cards. I will have to check the original file.

Ah, ok. If the F stop is correct, consider stopping down to shoot lightning. It will help to bring out more detail in the lightning strikes.

How loud was that? Three strikes at once and that one in the middle is massive. Looks prety close.
